We’ve had some great athletes who have came from the Rowland Basketball Family. Here are some of them who took their game to the collegiate and/or professional level.
Larry Tieu – Class of 2004
Larry was a shooting guard at Rowland High School from 2001-2004. He played 4 years of Varsity basketball and started all 4 years. Larry and the Raiders captured league championships in 2002, 2003, and 2004. In his senior year, Larry was selected as the San Gabriel Valley Player of the Year.
Upon graduation, Larry played point guard/shooting guard at Concordia University before transferring and finishing at Biola University.
Larry turned professional in 2013 when he signed with the Saigon Heat, a professional team in Vietnam. Currently, Larry is their starting point guard.
Brandon Stansell – Class of 2009
Brandon played point guard for the Rowland Varsity team from 2006-2009. Brandon was also a 4 year starter at that position. Brandon was also a member of the Rowland Varsity Football team for 3 years. He captured a league title as a sophomore in 2007 and a senior in 2009.
Upon graduation, Brandon went to Citrus College for two years to play running back at the collegiate level. He then received a full-ride NCAA Division 1 scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University. MVSU is the alma mater of NFL great, Jerry Rice. One of Brandon’s highlights was when his game was televised on ESPN and Brandon played a hell of a game. Brandon finished with 100 yards on 17 carries.
Brandon finished his career at MVSU in 2013 and is coaching football at Rowland High School.
Andrew Swink – Class of 2005
Andrew played basketball 4 years at Rowland, 2 years on the Varsity level. Andrew was a defensive stopper for the basketball team. However, his talent would shine in football instead. Andrew was a shut down cornerback.
When he graduated from high school, Andrew played at Mt. Sac College for 2 years before he received a NCAA scholarship to the University of Montana.
While at Montana, Andrew would start at the cornerback position for 2 years. Both of those years, his team would make it to the NCAA Division 1A Championship game.
Sharif Watson – Class of 2011
Sharif played 4 years of basketball at Rowland, 3 years with the Varsity team. After graduating from high school, Sharif would receive a scholarship to play at Coach Hamlow’s alma mater, Azusa Pacific University.
During his first two years with APU, he would play an integral part of their success. Currently, Sharif is one of their starters and is improving his game drastically. We’re excited to watch him play for the next few years!
Cameron Tucker – Class of 2003
Adam Wong – Class of 2002
Adam was a starting point guard here at Rowland for 4 years, playing 2?3? years with the Varsity. He played on Coach Hamlow’s first team here at Rowland. Adam won a league championship with Coach Hamlow and Rowland during 2002.
Upon graduation, Adam played at the University of La Verne for a year before transferring and finishing his playing career at Rio Hondo College.
Currently, Adam is the assistant coach with the Rowland Varsity team. He works with the guards as he helps them develop and improve.
Kris Lewis – Class of 2003

Alfonso Saavedra – Class of 2009
Alfonso played 4 years of basketball at Rowland. Upon graduation, he attended college overseas at De La Salle–St. Benilde, Philippines. Alfonso is currently in the middle of his career playing overseas with St. Benilde, and upon graduation he wishes to stay and become a professional player in the Philippines.
Eric Tabatabai – Class of 2005
BJ Oyefeso – Class of 2009
BJ played 4 years for the basketball team, 3 years on the Varsity Level. Currently, BJ is playing at football at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.
